Things to do on Texel

From the beach at De Koog to the lighthouse and Ecomare: these are our favourite outings on Texel, all within easy reach of Villa 21.

Beach and dunes

The beach at De Koog is wide, clean and stretches all the way to the lighthouse near De Cocksdorp. From Villa 21 you cycle to the beach entrance at Paal 17 in a few minutes.

The dune area behind it is part of the Duinen van Texel National Park. Follow one of the marked routes and within half an hour you look out over the sea and the polder at once.

Nature and animals

At Ecomare near De Koog you see seals and porpoises up close. The museum explains how the Wadden Sea works and why Texel matters so much for migratory birds.

In spring lambs run on the sheep farms and dozens of bird species nest in the dunes. Keep your distance and stay on the paths.

Villages and culture

Den Burg is the largest village on the island and has the most shops and terraces. Oudeschild is a genuine fishing village with the harbour, the cutter and the maritime museum.

  • Eierland lighthouse near De Cocksdorp — climb the 118 steps for the best view on the island
  • Oudeschild — shrimp fleet, fish auction and the Maritiem- en Juttersmuseum
  • Den Burg — market, shops and the Texels Museum
  • De Slufter — a unique nature reserve where the sea has free rein

With children

Texel is an island for children: beaches for hours of digging, a pool at De Koog, petting farms and a cycle path network that runs safely everywhere. A cot and high chair are ready for you at Villa 21.

Head out after a good night

After a day on the island you come home to a house with four bedrooms and an enclosed garden.
